My New DIY, The Phoenix Hammock

After crashing and burning with an earlier attempt at this hammock, I introduce the Phoenix DIY as it rose from the ashes.

Trying to make a SL Momentum 90 MR, I found out that I surpass the weight of the fabric. I call the first attempt the Icarus, as I flew too close to the sun . . . and crashed.

The Phoenix is a DL, with a Momentum 90 interior and a 1.1 exterior. I'd like to show pictures as I've included a number of old mods into a 22 oz hammock (without the net, but with suspension).

These photos show the nanoseeum screen removed for clarity. I have also made a fleece and 1.1 cover that zips into place of the bug screen for colder weather. I'll get photos of that soon.

As you will see I have 30" x 12" shelves (Similar to the WBBB) located on each side to store rif raf and provide a pull-out. Mine are on the lower end making it easier to find what I'm trying to find. They do not affect the view too much, My head extends slightly above the shelf when laying.

The zipper continues between the two layers, but moves to the top layer of the shelf to help pull the top up a bit, making it easier to find

The lower level of each shelf contains a Knotty Mod to tighten the sides as well as provide a better fit for a footbox/headbox.

I also have dual organizers as I had posted in a previous post there is one to the right on top and left on the bottom to store many items, but be easily reached.

I also tried something different with the whipped/gathered end. I cut the fabric at an angle to create a peak in the center (about 4" longer than the sides) (Okay, the tear of the icarus gave me the idea). I sewed and gathered the end with the peak included, then whipped the end pulling everything even. This extension eliminated the line that ran behind my knees, Yeah!

I also passed a 7/64 loop through the whipping to attach my ridgeline.

I am very excited about the new hammock and can't wait to give it a night out.

BTW, I am not trying to take the name of a wonder UQ by Hammock Gear, I'm just joking around about my gravity assist to the ground as I was making this hammock.
