do you always have insulation under the hammock?

the least insulation i have used for a overnight was 2 weeks ago, in the backyard.
i used only my fleece TQ. it is 58" wide so i laid on top of it and pulled the sides over me.
it was perfect foe a low of 60* w/ very little breeze.
i did have my fleece UQ and knit hat folded on the ground beneath the lite owl, just in case.

Part of what I love about an UQ is here in the desert summer I start with it pushed completely out from under me and no TQ. Most calm nights by 2 am I wake up briefly and pull it under me by 5-6 am I pull the plush TQ over me. If it is windy the UQ starts out under me by sleepy time. Even with hundred degree days I have only had one or two nights that stayed warn enough for no UQ and none for no TQ. I am a cold sleeper so I like lots of warn insulation.

Always. It's gotta be 85°F the whole night before I wouldn't need under insulation and that's not too common in my area.

This morning,,temp was 60,,daytime temp,,100,,even in the house,,when the air kicks on you get cool in a light weight hammock from the breeze,,,even tho UQ might not be tight on the hammock,,its there,,blocking wind,,keep me from cold butt sydrome,,if I need to sinch it tighter or close an end,,in a few seconds its done and back to comfy sleep and toasty,,cold front coming in this weekend and will hang outside and have a UQ on,,using a 50 degree Jarbridge and before that it was nothing more than a DIY'ed poncho liner,,anything in the summer will work to add a dash of warmth when needed,,but its all based,,like PGibson stated...location,,location,,location,

Anything under 70 for me. From 70-80 it depends on if the air is still or not. I sleep in a hammock full time. The thermostat is set for 78 and I feel cold under the hammock if the fan is running, and then all that I really need is a fleece bag under me in the hammock (head end is atttached to the ridgeline with a prusk). Strange thing is, when I shut the fan off, I don't need any under insulation but a poncho liner or fleece top quilt is required.

Depends on the hammock. In my Frontline, I need under-insulation even when hanging indoors. In my Clark, with empty pockets, I can go down to around 50 degrees and be comfortable.

But, if I even suspect I might see temps in the upper 50's or lower, I take along some insulation. Better to pack a couple extra pounds than to spend a cold night if I can avoid it.

Oh, heck no. When the Weather Channel says it's gonna be above 70 for the low, I don't bring one. I don't really need one above 65, and I can always pull my pack into the hammock to sleep on as a torso booster if it drops to 60.

Mind you, this is in sweltering Florida, where the lows from April to October stay above 75...
