    Perseid Meteor Shower

The Perseid Meteor Shower will peak Saturday night, Sunday morning (08/11-08/12). If you happen to have a hammock stand and clear skies, I can't think of a better way to watch them than relaxing in the hammock...

Thumbs up Hanging with the Peresids!

Wow! My buddies and I are going hanging at Cheaha, Alabama, Saturday and Sunday nights. We will be up on the ridge on Saturday evening, with access to a NE facing overlook. We will be behind the ridge from Anniston, the only small city in the area. There is nothing on that side (viewing side, NE) of the ridge. Only some very very small towns obscured by other ridges.

The viewing should be amazing! I will include a trip report with pics when we get back.

More reason to camp this weekend (as if I needed one.)

The Perseids are cause for rejoicing, because, at least in my corner of the planet, average daily high temps begin to drop. That, and the LL Bean fall catalog are proof that better days and nights lie ahead.

Thanks for posting this information Awilder! This sounds like a night for the Hennessy and no tarp.

    I saw one

I saw a meteor. If my field of vision were a circle 16 inches in diameter, this thing streaked about five inches across the sky - spectacular.

Then the clouds came in and I can't see squat. I'm going to bed.

I saw this thread earlier tonight and went straight outside to lay in my hammock. In about an hour in the hammock, I saw around two dozen meteors - including one that was over a quarter of the sky long, and another whose trail died out before reappearing and bursting in a ball of light. A nice cool night (for a change) made things even better.

Thanks for the tip, awilder! That might have been the best hour I've spent in my hammock.
