Lost my tree . . . while in use.

We lost a tree last night. A large oak pulled up out of the ground and fell over. Unfortunately, one end of my hammock was tied to it and I was in the hammock at the time. I was asleep and woke up to the tarp bouncing all around. I thought a branch was falling on me. Then there was a big crack and I hit the ground. My thought was "how am I going to get this branch off of me" when I realized that there was no branch on me. I wiggled out of the hammock and saw that the whole tree had pulled out of the ground. Thank the Lord that the tree fell to the side instead of forward onto me, the SUV and the house! My suspension and ridgeline cords broke, but that Hennessey lashing held. WAY too much excitement for 3:00 a.m.!

    Lord have mercy!
I have one question; How are you going to clean all that poop out of the hammock?

    Holy Crud!

So very happy that you weren't squished! Oak trees don't mess around when they come down. If you were a cat, you'd be down to 8 lives.

Now that's an adventure to remember! Glad all is well! So the amsteel(?) failed before your hammock body? I might need to rethink a Hennessey purchase!

I am thinking if it fell towards you it would hang up in the other tree . . .

. . . unless it is read to go over as well.

Might want to have it checked out.

Glad to here it from an uninjured you instead of the news.

Yipes! Thank goodness you are OK! Do you think the drought has anything to do with this?

We have had a very dry summer and I've been worried about trees dropping limbs because of it. We finally got some rain--3 " last week and 2.5" last night, so I think the soggy ground had more to do with it.

The tree that fell was bigger than the other tree I was tied to. The falling tree would have just squished it too.
