Need info on Warrior Trail, PA

I'm thinking of exploring parts of the Warrior Trail in PA in the near future. I received the hiking guide and was wondering if anyone on the forum has hiked it? Is the trail pretty well marked? Is it cleared or do I need to take a machete or saw with me to clear parts of the trail? How are water sources running with this drought? What are your favorite parts of the trail?

    Any info will be appreciated.

    Interesting... I checked alltrails.com and everytrail.com - not a single write-up!
Looking forward to your trip report!
I often drive across this area and may want to find a nice hang spot for overnighting during a road trip.

I've found out why there isn't more interest in this trail by backpackers. Water on the trail is an issue because most of trail is up on the ridgelines. And the trail is mostly on private property so you need permission to camp anywhere except the shelters. Here's the response I got from one of the guys who helps maintain the trail . . .

"Water can be problem on the trail. Especially this summer. Since it is all on high ridge tops and doesn’t cross any streams, all of the springs are located lower down.

There are only a couple of places where there is water right at trail side. One spring is around 25 and the other is out in the 40’s Of course this is Western PA and WV, so there is water around but you may have to drop off the ridge to find it.

The shelters at Midpoint and Moninger Shelter are located near houses and I’m sure that you could get water from the neighbors. The people who own the property that Moninger is on are really nice and they live just over the hill. If you are going to camp any place other than the 3 shelters you need to get landowner permission.

I would recommend a couple of day hikes to take a look around before setting out on a backpacking trip."
