By all means feel free to list your top 5 in order on your reply. I plan to use all of the replys that are numbered 1-5. Just list what you consider the top 5 benefits to hammocks vs tents.
Id love to see your top 5. The pole was merely there just to determine the number 1 benefit out of the 5 listed. I plan to use your personal input separate of the pole for the research paper.

My forum name is Fish<><; I'm in the navy; and I hate sleeping on the ground. If I didn't need ground to walk on or measure resistance to, I think I could happily give it up.

3. location availability
4. easier to "leave no trace"

Good luck on the paper!
1. Comfort (no rocks, roots, or flooding)
2. Mobility (I can camp on a slope or tarp camp on the ground)
3. Modularity (tarp, suspension, insulation, and hammock can be changed for conditions)
4. Speed (I can get a shelter up in about a minute, then hang my bed while staying dry)
5. Simplicity (no tent poles, or sticking the pins into the end of tent poles while the poles are trying to stay unbent)
#1- Comfort
#2- Ease of set up
#3- LNT
#4- Site selection
#5- Up and away from critters
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
1. Better nights sleep
2. Better nights sleep (hehe), I feel, better weather protection, with the proper tarp
3. Cooler nights sleep in the summer
4. More versitile, as in I can use my hammock for sleeping, and use it for a chair.
5. Better views, with the tarp in porch mode, or semi-porch.
6. Leave No Trace.
6. To expand on my previous post, I have seen, after a night out, that the t**nt users always left more of a "foot" print on the ground. I can tell where every one was, but had a hard time finding where I had my hammock set up.
