Here's what I learned from the SHTA about trail closures...

    to me
Hi, this is what is happening this year.

    Gayle

Most of the Superior Hiking Trail will be closed during the firearms deer season, November 3rd – 18th. The trail will be closed from: 1) the new start of the SHT at Normanna Road Trailhead south of Two Harbors to Sugarloaf Road (Hwy 61 milepost 73) south of Schroeder; and 2) from the Hovland Lakewalk (Hwy. 61 milepost 123) though Judge Magney State Park to the Arrowhead Trail Trailhead north of Hovland.

There will be a firearms deer season in Gooseberry, Split Rock Lighthouse, and Tettegouche State Parks. These parks are open to the public on the lake side of Hwy 61 but closed to the public on the inland side. Crosby-Manitou State Park is closed to hunting west of the Manitou River but open on the east side. Temperance and Cascade State Parks will be open to hunting above the gorge/waterfall areas. Judge Magney State Park will be open to hunting in all areas except the lake side of Highway 61 and in the campground. Areas near the falls are open to hunting.

The rest of the trail is open to hiking but SHTA discourages people from hiking on the trail during this two-week period. If you do hike on the trail, you must wear blaze orange as a safety precaution.

    Subject: Superior Hiking Trail Information

I'm wondering about trail closure during 2012 deer hunting season...dates, what portions of the trail will be closed. Do you have that information available now?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm not available any of those weekends...I have a wedding, two concert performances and the Winter Camping Symposium. Bummer!

    Last poll choice

I hope we are able to do the last weekend. I will be in the area for the UofM vs Minn football game and would love to hang that weekend if possible. Might be going to the UofM vs Neb game the week before so maybe I could make it up there on Sunday if you guys choose that weekend and some are still around. Would love to meet everyone, especially Fronkey and Shug since I have watched so many of your videos and I want to shake your hand and say "thank you!"

    Yep, three ways.

What do you guys think about meeting in the middle and going with the 19-21st?

If those are the official dates I'm in as I got time off work already. If it falls on another weekend then I'm 50/50 of making it.

Since no one else has responded than I am going to say that is the official dates.

    Oct 19-21st

So, the next question is who can make it.
