Tablecloth Brazilian

For a couple years now I've been sleeping in a very nice Brazilian hammock.


I love it but the cotton fabric has taken a set and now the hammock kind of forces me to choose laying on one diagonal over the other.

While everyone has been ordering the 60"x126" crinkle taffeta tablecloths for a quick and easy no sew hammock, it was the 156"x90" polyester tablecloths that caught my attention for possible use as a "Brazilian". At only $13.39 it couldn't hurt to give it a try, right?

The tablecloth arrived quickly and with just a fast end whipping per Just Jeff's instructions and an extra pair of extra whoopie slings, I had my Tablecloth Brazilian up in minutes. The first nights sleep proved it to be just as comfortable as my cotton Brazilian. At some point I'll probably take some material off the sides because right now this hammock is the very definition of floppy, but there's no rush. My hope is that the polyester material will hold it's shape and the hammock won't take a set.



So if you've been toying with the idea of buying a Brazilian but aren't sure if you'd like it, this poor man's Brazilian is a way to test the waters. Heck, it might even be the permanent solution.

Cool Knotty. I have one of those things too but I'm not crazy about the feel of the fabric. I think I like the crinkle poly better personally.

Definitely could use less width I think...

I've been sleeping in a tablecloth hammock for a week. I noticed it was static-y on the first night but haven't seen the problem since. Pretty comfy for me.

You can get the 90"x156" in polyester crinkle taffeta.

It's only been one night but I did like the polyester fabric. The crinkle taffeta might be worth checking into but for my indoor hammocks I like a heavy fabric so I don't have to worry about putting weight on an elbow as I change positions or whatever. I had seen some posts by people who already put holes in or had failures with the crinkle taffeta. Randy, counting on you to be the guinea pig.

Also, for anyone not familiar with Brazilians...one of the reasons I use these huge hammocks for indoor sleeping is because you can use steep hang angles. For an 8' ceiling, my camping hammocks require about 22' between hang points. With a Brazilian I only need 15'.

The poly is definitely more dense fabric. I have both that and the crinkle taffeta which was 2.6oz/sy.

The poly is more like 4.8oz/sy.

I guess it wasn't uncomfortable to the skin it just doesn't give at all IIRC.

Interesting perception. I found it to be much stretchier than the cotton Brazilian and as stretchy as most of my nylon hammocks, probably due to the poly weave.

Still, it's up to you to test the crinkle Brazilian.

Ha! I confess that with everything else going on I haven't actually made the poly hammock...
