i dont have a way to weigh it, but the poles make up most of the 4 lbs. plus it has 8 metal tent pegs (the sheep hook type) plus a bunch of cheap nylon string with plastic tentioners, and a nice bag to keep it all in. the bag has a web handel sewn in. tentpegs have there own bag and the poles have there own bag, and it all goes into the bigger bag. it is way big enough to be a hammock tarp.

it's hard to tell from their pics/description -- is it a hex or a rectangle?

i would say hex, the 2 tieouts on each side have a kind of arch between the 2 points

    that actually looks pretty good.
The old "Neo tarp" (9 foot on a side, I think)weighs 1 1/2 pounds. prox. I've been using one for 6 years. It cost $30 prox. then, so the price isn't bad.

I've often considered cutting off the tails to make a hex shape, but decided not to and will eventuall get a nysil tatp when the right deal comes to me.

After deducting the weight of the extras (poles and stakes) weight should be similar.

    Valleyrat,
If you have a bathroom scale, how about weighing yourself with and without the tarp in hand and compute an approximate weight??

This is my backup. It's big and sealed well enough. It's hex shaped. Only problem I have with it is its heavy. Some pvc type material. No scale sorry.
    It's a wonderful starter tarp!
Similar material to the gear guide 11x11 or 12x12 series tarps.

It's definitely a good price. It's a little heavy for backpacking. I'll probably pick one up for car camping though! Thanks for the info! Maddog
