I just posted a quick review with photos of the Toggle Rope suspension by The Ship in the Bottle on my blog.
Highlights
- Only 7.6 oz. for the pair. One toggle rope is just over 11 ft. of suspension -- that's more than 22 ft combined length.
- Reported breaking strength is 1,100 lbs.
- Nearly unlimited adjustability without knots or extra hardware
In the past few nights that I've been able to test it I haven't noticed any stretching after the initial "set" -- similar to strap suspension systems. I haven't tested the rope wet, which I'm guessing will affect the tension.
The woven design is an easy DIY project, and I'm toying with the idea of making one of these out of 6 strands instead of 4. In this way, I can make a 6-strand flat braid that would be wider than your typical 1 in. webbing strap, and then finish off with a 4-strand round braid to get the toggle points.
The weight isn't horrible, actually, and for some reason I'm kind of excited about the design. I think part of what I'm feeling is nostalgia because I made me a Commando Rope in the Boy Scouts for my Pioneering Merit Badge and I have fond memories of all the adventures and imaginative play I had with that rope. I also like braiding rope and doing knot work, so this lends itself to a fun DIY project.
