Another one of the things that makes the Hennessy bottom entry practical, and not a gimmick as its been called. Its not like chair mode, but you can sit closer to the ground and have the stove under the high portion of the hammock and the long portion of the tarp.

No bears here. But do use caution where applicable.

I usually prop up one side of the tarp ala "porch mode", and then keep the fire at controlled burn in the woodstove. If I feel a need to get all caveman and do a bigger fire, I put the woodstove out some from the tarp.

Depending on what your burning, sparks and smoke are minimal.

I do with my morning "coffee", but nothing else. For that, I use an alchy stove inside my woodburner.

The rest of the time, I eat away from the hammock (spills are more likely with solid food for me; it has a tendency to fall off of the spork from time to time).

It also keeps embers away from the hammock and tarp. I have no desire to have the hammock fail underneath me...

I agree with what has already been stated: not worth risking damaging expensive gear, and a safety issue if currently or future planning on hiking in bear country.
