    My Quilt... kinda done. Sorta.

I've nearly finished my top quilt. It's specs are: 2" baffles, 55" wide at head, 45" wide at foot 7" long. Used 1.1 from DIY Gear Supply, and KMart down pillows.

Ive not yet put drawstrings or footbox closures on it (thinking of using Magnets), but I have a bit of an issue. It doesn't loft nearly as well as I had hoped. I did the math for 550 FP down and 30% overfill and I think I could have doubled the down. If I hold it by one side the down flows down the baffles and the top is very thin. I think I'll cut open one side and stuff more in. I've got a pillow and a half left (or maybe more) and I'm not going for a SUL quilt.

    I used 18.5oz of down.

    Anyway see pics below.

And, I got tired of taking pics here. Turns out stuffing down was surprisingly easy. I used a bit of TP tube stuck into a sandwich bag held closed by a clothespin. I crammed it through the tube into the bag, filled it, held it closed with the clothespin and weighed it. Easy. Just dont forget to subtract the tare weight of the bag and clothespin.

    Done.. top.

    And another...

    Sorry for the sideways pics.

Looks great Matt! Got my materials in tomorrow, will be starting mine this weekend. Looks like we have some pretty close dimensions, like you, my winter quilt doesnt have to be SUL, I will be warm however. Congrats!

Great job, I am starting mine this weekend, I have several Goose Down Quilts I no longer need, now that I seem to be stuck down here in the south. I am going to use one of them for my UQ, my kid can have the second half of the down.

The photo's help alot. Hopefully I won't make the mess I did when I made down jackets.

Thanks! Definitely do a few searches here for more pics and instructions. Really helpful. As you can see I used tape to do the layout of mine. Worked great. Just keep everything organized especially when sewing baffles

Great job. I'm almost finished with mine as well; ran out of grosgrain though. mine is 72" x 44" x 4". Black 1.1 on the outside and light gray 1.1 on the inside. 8 baffles. Don't know about you but this was my first experience on injecting baffles. Wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be... Again, good job!

    Looks great.

For 2 inch baffles , what is the width of your net?

    Thanks!

The baffle is the net. I used 2" packing tape, so the net (between the seams) is 2". With stuffing I will have closer to 3" loft (puffed up thickness). I'll measure and take pics once I finish adding more down.

    Questions:

So how long did it take to do a project like this?

how many pillows did you have to use?

Not counting thinking, planning and learning, I'd say maybe 12 - 15 hours. My next one will go a lot faster.
