    using an old mummy bag

    i have an old mummy bag rated down to -10f and i was wondering if i could some how modify it to do something kinda like this? http://store.grandtrunkgoods.com/hammocks/sleeping-bag

    if not, is there a way i can use the mummy bag to make an under quilt. i also have another compact bag that i usually sleep in, but it's only rated to 40f. between the two, that should keep me warm enough...right?

    -10 in Florida?

    Cutting out the foot end of the bag so the hammock rides thru can be done (pics in my gallery). The bag does limit the comfort of the hammock. Hard to get a good diagonal lay.

    +1 on what Gargoyle said. I had an old bag I used like that and it worked great as far as warmth, but it compromised comfort with the diagonal lay. I really like double layer hammocks for the flexibility with insulation. I ended up making a double layer (see the link in my signature) and I made my old bag into an under quilt.

    cool. i'll check both of those out. surprisingly i am comfortable laying parallel with the hammock. i lay diagonal too though. might have to give it a try before i chop up my bag? but sadly my bag is in wa where i moved from. i left it there knowing i would NEVER use it in florida lol
