    FL Hangers web page

Due to my own frustration with planning threads for the hangs that I host I have created a free Google Sites web page for Florida hangs. The planning can (and will) still occur in the planning threads here but the use for the web page is to have a site that can 1) have updated maps and photos without having to read an entire thread or request that a mod add the picture/information to the original post and 2) a place to keep/add files that can't be added to an HF post (like gps files).

The site address is in my signature and even if I'm the only one that uses it... I'm ok with that

    FL Hangers web page

There is a listing of all upcoming hangs by date (it takes you to an individual hang page that includes a link to the HF planning page plus basic information and planning documents if available), trip report links (directly to the HF trip report) for each hang, a gallery of photos from past hangs (just for fun), a calendar that has all of the hangs on it, a file repository that contains files of general use that aren't related to a specific hang, and contact information (edit: I have added a links page and will probably add a Help/FAQ page in the future).

If you are going to plan a hang in the future and want to have a link to a FL Hangers web site page for your hang so that you can put the link in your original post then just send me a pm and I'll generate one for you. Then you can include that link in your first post so that people can follow the link to get files/photos/maps for the hang. Obviously you would want to do this before you make your post, I don't really need any information other than a name for the hang.

    Questions/comments/feedback are welcome

    Dave

Looks good Dave, with as many hangers as we have here this should be a great addition.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

    Nice!

I do not know much about the "groups" function on hammockforums.net, but wondered if that might be useful for groups of 'hangers' who may not want to maintain their own website?

I'll have a look at this forum's help files next.

Thanks, I'm still trying to get everything laid out in a way that I like (feedback from others is appreciated). I have a few changes that I'm thinking of making:
    1. Move the completed hangs back to their own separate page
    2. Re-order the upcoming hangs to list the ones that are closest to happening at the top (I don't like it the way it is right now)
    3. Add a "sites" page for people to put information about different sites to hang. This will require help/feedback from others but I can see it being useful for people that want to go hiking/camping/hanging and want to know where to go. Each place will have its own page with information about the site, entrance fees, official links, the good, the bad, the special, how hammock friendly is it, gps points and tracks, maps, photos, etc.

Maybe it's just me but I like having all of the Florida stuff in one easy to find place

    Please do!

The Google sites seem to be made for this (you can even have it set up for people to leave comments). It took me a little while to get used to how to edit and organize the site but once you have everything all set up it shouldn't take much effort to keep it updated.

    Best of luck,

    Dave

    I like the site!

I've added it to my FL panhandle places to hang thread...
