    Smallest possible tarp for WBBB?

I was thinking about getting a fair weather tarp to have in some skins above me, at the ready for the random unforcast shower. I dont want to be forced to take my big tarp all the time and was wondering what I should consider. What would have just enough coverage for a black bird?

    Thanks

Look into a Warbonnet Edge tarp or a MacCat Micro tarp. Both would make a fine fair weather tarp for the Blackbird. I made one of this size just for that purpose.

If you want smallest possible; hang your hammock, measure the hung length of your hammock, add about 6" to that length and with that number you can calculate the diagonal of a rectangle to fit.

For example; I just recently did a review on my new BIAS wwm 11ft and while hanging it found out that a 6x8 tarp will cover it. That includes the roughly 2" inches that is taken off each side for seams ($6 tarp from my bx). I will say that if there were any wind I'd get wet, but it would cover if it were straight down. I have just a few inches on each side and would need drippers within a couple of inches of my hammock ends. I will probably never use this tarp in this climate with this hammock but if I'm feelin lucky I might. Good luck, and as always hang safe.

I am leaning toward the MacCat Micro as of right now. I am hoping it will have decent coverage. I really admire the guys that DIY. Im just not sure I can to Cat cuts myself. I don't have much experience with a sewing machine. Thanks for the advice folks!

I have an AHE Shangri La that works well for a smaller tarp.

I've used my MacCat Micro on my Blackbirds many times. Not very much room for error, but it fits! I would not go any smaller and be comfortable about it.

    try the Tadpole

I started with the huge Hennesy Hex and it was very forgiving in the setup. I went with the Tadpole from Wilderness Logics for my backpacking adventures. It does a great job on coverage of my Blackbird.

If money is no object, Z-Packs has a diamond hammock tarp. 4.3 oz / $175. I know people who are satisfied with coverage of this tarp with their Blackbird. But they do use it as fair weather tarp. Plus you only need 2 stakes.

    Dimensions:
Ridge Line: 11 feet long (3.35 meters)
Width: 8.5 feet wide (2.6 meters)
    Short side: 66" (1.68 meters)
    Long side: 103" (2.6 meters)

Weight: 4.3 ounces (122 grams). Stuff sack included.
