    Smile Hello from Alberta

    Hey everyone,

I joined this forum to get some tips on building a hammock for my wife and I to camp in. She's never really camped properly before (it was just a big party where they slept in tents) but I've done it all my life. I like tenting for the most part, except I'm not a fan of how they turn into an oven in the morning, so I thought I'd try hammocks.

2 days ago I bought 36 yards of ripstop nylon so we can make 2 hammocks, two tarps and two full length underquilts, and then this morning I had a bunch of alpaca wool delivered for the underquilts (I'm allergic to down). We're going to try to have everything done by the end of the week as we're heading out to Vancouver Island on Saturday

I'm looking forward to reading everyone's tips and learning as much as possible.

    Cal

Hello and Welcome to HF from north of Toronto! Enjoy the trip and pics if at all possible (missed my chance to surf Tolfino some years back)!

Welcome to HF from Georgia! Looks like you've got a busy week ahead of you. The Alpaca wool sounds interesting as a fill material. Best of luck with your adventure! Let us know how it all turns out.

    Hey Cal
welcome to a whole new world of camping . . .

    . . . I didn't see you mention anything about bug-netting.

Ya might want to consider it as essential as under quilting.

Welcome from the west coast of Canada!

    Hello Calskin,

Welcome from Victoria on Vancouver Island! I'm a newbie to hammock hanging but I love it so much more than sleeping on the ground. As a matter of fact I just got back from a mid-day hang in one of our local parks. I've discovered I need more practicing setting my tarp...

    Cheers,

Greetings and welcome to a fellow Canadian Hanger from Oshawa, Ontario.

Be sure to document your hammock and quilt construction. I am interested in how you are going to use the Alpaca Wool.

Have a great time on your trip.

    Cheers

    Brian
