    What underquilt do I use?

I have an ENO Doublenest and use it with a sleeping pad. What underquilt do you all recommend? There are just so many options. I like portability, and not too heavy. Camp mostly in Spring-Fall (nothing less than 35 at night). I looked at the ENO underquilt but dont know it if works with a sleeping pad.

    Thanks!

Most any uq will work for you. You need to decide how much you want to spend, how much weight, down or synthetic. The Eno uq is a waste of time and money. Take a look at some of the cottage vendors here. They can set you up with exactly what you need

If you have an underquilt you don't need a sleeping pad

It depends on what matters more to you, weight, cost, packability, full length or partial, etc.
Figure that out and we can help you better.

Not only do you have all the stock options out there, you also have the option of going custom. Then you can have the exact UQ you want.

You could always go the cheap route with a PLUQ. Easy DIY project to do. Basically buy a $30 Army Poncho liner fold and rig some suspension. The directions are here-> http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...highlight=pluq

Any favorite UQ cottage vendors? The pad I use really is only giving me comfort. I get cold easily.
I car camp so weight, pack size, etc. is nice but not most critical.

    Thanks for any recommendations.

All of em....Seriously, by the time everyone weighs in you will have been recommended every UQ vendor on here. They all make quality products. If weight isn't an issue then I recommend getting a full length UQ. Then your not fiddling or fighting with a foot pad. Personally partial UQs make no sense to me, unless you're carrying the pad anyway.

I have the JRB Hudson River, it's a TQ and UQ(suspension sold separate). Rated 20-25*, full length and lighter than anything else at that rating and length, unless you go with custom materials. I haven't had a chance to use it in cold weather yet, 49* is the lowest I've had it, but I really dig it so far. And I like the fact that I can also use it as a TQ, so when I can afford an M50 UQ I'll have a 3 season TQ instead of just an extra UQ. It does cost more than others though.

I don't see how a partial UQ makes sense, either. You want to create a dead air space with adjustable ventilation to evaporate insulation-killing moisture. Ventilation should occur where you can control it, up by neck and shoulders where hands reach zippers, toggles, and covers. It seems to me a down UQ needs to run full length of the hammock. Why put insulation under 75" when your hammock is 100" long? ???

I found a queen size down comforter in the closet that measures exactly the length of my hammock on the diagonal. I'll mock up a "full length" UQ, put a weather sock made of wool flannel on the structural ridge line, and sleep in a sleeping bag. If I still get cold then there is always my down parka. I'm down with down. ;-)
