Hunting season = time for Blaze Orange

Saw this subject over at White Blaze.... Figured it would be a great reminder here also for safety reasons... Hunting season has now started in many areas...It will last thru January in one form or another in many areas/states.

Those in the woods are well advised to wear blaze orange, put it on packs and make it a part of your visible hammock camp.

    Ya'll be safe.

In case you find yourself without any blaze orange, your JRB quilts can be substituted as safety vests as well.

No offense Pan! Please everyone keep safe out there!

I use a blaze orange hammock for deer hunting. I always end up falling asleep waiting for a deer to stroll past. I figure if I am going to fall asleep I may as well be comfortable and safe.

Just an added safety note i saw a mention in field and stream for using a blinking headlamp with the green filter down. It was mentioned that it doesn't blind anyone yet is unmistakeable that you could be anything else and it doesn't tick off hunters because it doesn't spook game. Just though you all would like to know that our cocerns as hikers are also being cocerns and thought of hunters and those groups. Besafe!!!! hope you all got the jist of what ever it was I just said it's late, LOL!!!!

I've never seen a green filter on a headlamp. Is this a DIY jobber? I've seen red options but not green... Maybe manufacturers need to take note.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

A buddy of mine has one with a green option. I'm not sure if it's a filter or one of the LED colors. Seems like the latter as I remember it cycling through that color as he pushed the button. I'm not sure of the brand.

I got a green 'emergency light' 1 LED light that clips onto my headband at trail days from princeton tec. The going though is that it like red light does not ruin your night vision, but the though is that red light attracts mroe bugs. I can say the green is better than white for attracting bugs, but will still bring some in close.

I always try to wear a blaze orange hat when hiking alone or with just 1 or 2 other people. I wear a SU baseball cap in the summer, an orange head band in the spring and fall, and an orange knit hat in winter.

although big game season (deer and bear in NY) is the most popular (and the shortest), there is always something to hunt and target shooting is allowed in state forest. So I wear blaze orange all year when in the woods.

I havd a princeton tec quad that came with a red, blue, and green filter. I've heard the green does the same sort of thing the red does to preserve your night vision. I've seen others that have the green filters some military also the tactikka. The article I saw that in field and stream was also a promotion for some sort of new head lamp that had the green filter. Have a safe one, and enjoy the foliage it's beautiful here. Just don't drive 3 miles an hour in front of me to do it, LOL!!!!
