like others just getting off the ground was a major improvement, my back does not hurt anymore and the veiw from the hammock allows me to enjoy the surroundings, something hard to do when closed up inside a tent.

next was getting an UQ, much more comfortable than a pad.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

When I started using a pad between my knees since I'm a side sleeper.

It rotates my lay and straightens my back instead of it curving a little at the apex of the hammock.

Getting off the ground was a big improvement in itself, but the biggest was my DIY gathered end stretch side. I haven't used a lot of different hammocks, but this one is very comfortable.

    My king size bed.

aka BIAS WW Micro + in camo
64" wide & 11 ft long with the Knotty mod. I'm 5'9" and under 150#
The thing is huge, weighs almost nothing, and I can sleep comfortably in most any position - back, side, stomach, hanging from the ridge line like a bat.

Next in line were some major expenditures with Underground & Hammock Gear for top & bottom warmth.
    Incredible workmanship on all pieces.

Three things in the order of importance to me:

    1) Never waking up with that dang sore spot from the rock, root or other annoying thing that creep under my hip while I was sleeping!

    2) I no longer care if it rains. Seriously, I can hike into my spot in a downpour, set up my tarp and take a leisurely time setting up my gear in the dry comfort of the "porch" I've just erected! I can crawl into my bed without bringing my wet old arse in ... soaking everything I own. Maybe that's a tie with point #1.

    3) As one of the finest fellers I've had the pleasure to share the woods with taught me ... breakfast from the hammock. A wonderful way to start a day in the woods!

Getting up off the ground by far the greatest benefit! Having a comfortable place to sit is another plus! Being able to setup camp almost anywhere you choose... Priceless!

This is gonna be borderline heresy here. Getting off the ground was the main reason I made the jump but it only improved my sleep a little. I think that has more to do with me getting used to one bed & not sleeping well in anything that's not that bed. I started with a DIY GrizzBridge and then went to a gathered end and found the gathered end more comfortable. Having made the jump I'm not going back, just means I need to DIY a new hammock.

Now, I don't worry about rocks, roots, wet ground or rain.
If I touch my wet tarp (silnylon) it doesn't leak like a sieve.
I have the option of camping places that I could never have pitched a tent... now I need to go camp in those places.
