    any sales on goose down?

Hey guys, I'm looking for a good deal on bulk goose down (to make an UQ) Any suggestions?
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

Diygearsupply and thru-hiker seem to be the most popular choices on here.

Stevebo - I'm looking at this as a less expensive alternative.

    http://www.overstock.com/Bedding-Bat...4/product.html

Seems to be just enough for a winter UQ and a hat.
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

Be careful with pillows, some have a small down core, but the portion around the core is actually a polyester fiber fill pillow form. We had a person here on the forums purchase some from OverStock, and ran into that problem and didn't have near enough down. I just can't recall what down pillow he purchased. If looking at pillows your best bet is some king Bloomingdale My Luxe pillows. It's just gotten real hard to win those at a decent price since everyone knows about them. Bloomingdale's My Flair pillows would work too, its just a lower quality down, I think 600. Eddie Bauer also makes some really nice down comforters that come up every so often that you can win for a fare price. Their expeditions are all down with no fiberfill to help subsidize the down. Comforters are just harder to harvest from, but it's doable.

DIYGearSupply is out of down at the moment. Thru-Hiker is $29.95 for 3 oz.

I know it's been mentioned, but I picked up some "the great find" brand KMart down pillows on clearance for $10 each. Label says each has 16oz of down. I bought 3 just a few weeks ago so they're still around. (or were then)

I've not opened any up yet, but reports range from 500is to 650ish or higher on fill power. I'm hoping it's better than that but as long as it works I'm not too worried.

Oh, and before you go buying comforters or the like to salvage down, watch "how Fronkey stuffs down" (the sticky at the top of this page). I bet buying it prepackaged in easily-dividable paper envelopes might just outweight the savings of buying it cheap and dealing with the mess. Just a thought.

I have a suggestion. There is a Western Mountaineering Flight vest @ 7 ozs for sale here that could be easily converted into a dual use underquilt/vest with slight modification, ie some shock cord a loop or two and a few mitten clips. Hey you asked for a suggestion. It might inspire someone to snap up this good deal so I quit being tempted to buy the vest.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

Wilderness Logics usually has down at a good price. Good to support our cottage industry folks also.

Yea! Wildernesslogics down for $6.75 per oz. That's cheap for 850fill.

    Thanks Les!
