    back rest for your hammock.

Thanks to all of you who have contributed and given me ideas to play with. One of the things I love about the hammock is that I can play with it all day.. 1st the suspension then the ridge line and on and on.
Yesterday I got the idea of pulling up the back side of the hammock so I could lean back without laying down .
I accomplished this by clipping a small biener to the ridge line. Then I picked up a rock that would not fit threw the biener. Pull some fabric from the back edge of the hammock and tuck it threw the biener and wrap it around the rock to hold it in place. Repeat on the left side. I placed the rocks about 12-18 inches from the ends.
Now I can lean back in the hammock without laying down. The structural ridge line holds the back side of the hammock up like the back of a chair.
Sorry for the lack of pictures, but I'm using my phone. The internet has been down since Friday morn.

Just a question, how does the area where the rock has been look after taking it down? Does it look stressed, stretched? Any tears starting? I assume you do use smooth rocks.

Been trying to find a way to do what you're writing about for a long time. Will give it a try. I expect the material/rock/biner may be a little hard on the fabric but alternatives can be developed.

    You could use Grip Clips.
Or I made home made grip clips.

Great idea. (If I am picturing it correctly)
I picture you attach a biner or grip clip to the back edge of the hammock and then run a short from each attachment to the ridgeline. Is that correct?

Here's a link to my grip clips.
    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=30155

The final version used a plastic chain link dipped in rubberization.
The biner might not be too ruff if you used a large button like I did instead of a rock.

I do something similar, but I skip the hardware. I pull a hank of hammock fabric (18 to 24 inches from the end) and throw a prussik on it. I then tie the prussik into the ring at the end of the hammock. Seems to hold fine and allows me to sit up comfortably. It does leave quite a wrinkle pattern after I take it out, but otherwise seems to cause no damage.

Am I wrong that this is similar to the chair mod that other members have done? They hung one end high and the other low, putting a pad to sit on in the middle. Maybe I'm picturing it differently
