Bags (or quilts) from zpacks are great! 900 down fill, size customizable, and excellent quality

I currently use a closed cell pad and a sleeping bag. I tend to have a lot of excess bulk in my pack because of this. I am kind of a big guy and the smaller mummies dont work to well for me. So I am going to get a down OQ/UQ setup. The only drawback I have found in my research into the down quilts is they require some special care when cleaning, but they don't have to be cleaned often so it don't seem so bad

I bought a $45 ebay down mummy that was too small for me, and pulled the zipper/hood:

I have had great results with Storm Crows quilts over at hammockgear.com. He will work with you to customize some things if you want. I am here in Northern California and a 20* quilt does me well most of the year.

I use a Snugpack Merlin3 zipped fully open but it has a sewed in foot box. So I stick my feet in the box and the box in the WBBB foot box and it is great.

Ya and marmots pack down just as small and are 1/2 the price of a quilt. I am in the market for a marmot or northface. Had a TQ and did not like my backside exposed when I rolled, I get a draft. I use my ICW bag form my usgi now, but being synthetic it dont pack down well.
