Tech Line vs. Lash-it

Just to add to the confusion on this (i.e. more choices), ZPacks sells a variety of small stuff. They have a Z-Line Spectra cord in 1.25mm or 1.5mm. They also have a Z-Line Slick Dyneema cord (probably Zing-it), but they also have it in 1.4mm.

Spectra
Spectra is a very high molecular density form of polyethylene - the same thing used to make grocery bags, six-pack carriers and milk jugs. The manufacturing process aligns the molecules, which vastly increases the strength of the material. It is twice as strong as hardened steel (per unit area) and one-tenth the density. Spectra has several difficult issues. The melting point is very low, 147 C or 297 °F, not much warmer than boiling water. The material is unbelievably slippery, which makes it difficult for manufacturers to form into a workable rope. And, while the modulus of the fibers is comparable to steel, they slowly elongate under a continuous load. This process is called "creep." It is mostly irrelevant to climbers, but annoying to sailors. Spectra/Nylon is also known as Dyneema (a trade name of Beal Ropes) in Europe.

Red and Mtnhanger, thanks! I'm looking for inexpensive source for 1/16" black drawcord. DIY gear supply is almost out right now and I'm obsessed with finishing some projects. Any ideas?

I have black braided Dacron (ie polyester) cord, 1mm, estimated BS of >80LB. Splices very nicely.

I am using it as drawcord, but I will acknowledge it is thinner than most of us are used to. Waxed, with nice hand feel, though.

Let me know desired quantity, I have lots. Pennies per foot + costs which I prefer not to drive up with Delivery Confirmation, Priority Mail, and Paypal retail-sales fees, but that's your call.

I can mail today or tomorrow.
