Can you calendar nylon with a household iron?

...Just wonderin'. I was laying in the hammock yesterday () and it occurred to me. If I needed some downproof ripstop and only had uncalendared ripstop, I don't see why I couldn't iron it myself and seal up those "holes" between the threads. (I realize it would be dicey. It's a fine line between calendaring and melting! )

Has anyone ever tried this? Any tips? Any reason it wouldn't work?

to my understanding you need two things to calendar nylon. Heat and pressure. Both need to be applied over the width of the fabric at the same time if I understand the process properly. While you could probably heat the fabric enough with a household iron I believe you would lack the width and consistent pressure to do the job properly.

I'm typing from intuitive ignorance and so can not offer a definitive answer. But that's my thought on the matter. If you do it, let us know the results.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

If you need help finding the optimum temp on your iron, let my mother-in-law help. She seems to melt something onto my iron every time she uses it. Let her pick the setting, then back it down a few notches!
