Chard, I'm sorry to report that I have to join Deadeye on the sidelines. A co-worker got himself fired recently, meaning I'll have to work that weekend for certain. Have a great trip everyone.

That's really too bad. Running with the wind all the way back from Tom Thomson to Canoe was a blast and I was looking forward to paddling around with you again.. Hopefully next time.

Hey Chard, back in the house for a few days. Have we locked up a route? My Dad and one of his good friends are seriously considering the trip if the portages aren't too long. I just bought a new boat so I'm ready to get her wet.

I'm already committed to my family's birthday parties that weekend and can't come.
It's made even worse now that I've taken up kayaking.

Hey guys gonna have to bail from this trip. Work has been griping about missing the tree planting weekend for a second year. Its sorta a big thing for them. Hopefully I will see you all on another one.

Glad to hear you took the plunge and got yourself a canoe.. Best investment you'll ever make.

If your dad and buddy are on the fence just because of the length of a portage, then let's settle on either Ragged/Parkside or RalphBice/LittleTrout for their short portages. Louisa can wait. I'm sure we'll have no problem booking either.

Dang Crash, that's a drag. FYI, ask [o]TTer about portaging a kayak!!! (See the Fall 2011 trip report on my signature. Kayak portaging can be really tough. You just have to be (need to be) committed.

My vote goes with the Little Trout route. Never paddled those lakes before.

Ryvr - too bad you have to bail. See you next time.
Dan - new boat eh? Nice! Hope your Dad can come.
Jayson - I'm fine with your route preference.
I haven't been to any of these lakes so I'm good with any route. Shorter portages are very appealing.

    Little Trout it is!!

I remember one early spring trip many years ago when were were crossing Ralph Bice (then called Butt) on the way out after a weekend trip. The air temperature was below freezing and the lake was foggy/misty and dead flat with a matte finish. My hand was freezing so I had to borrow one of my buddy's wool gloves. Each of us had a glove on our paddle handle hand, and a good thing too because the entire shafts of our paddles were iced over. Our water hands managed to keep from freezing by dipping them into the "warm" lake. With our two rods trolling behind us, I had the feeling we were on a North Atlantic trawler. Very strange weather... But a very cool trip.

Moral of the story.. Have warm paddling gloves...
