oh, i should mention that once tied, you have to slide it up tight against the ring by pushing on the knot or by pulling on the working end. if you don't, it will do it itself when you weight the hammock. try and tie it as close to the ring as you can so you don't lengthen the support line much by this last step.

Lightweight bear bells? I hang a pair of the rings from the pack compression strap. So far, either no bears or the "bells" have warned the bears of my presence.

3mm AmSteel Blue! Nice to have a high tensile strength suspension line. Not sure if the line flattening where pinched by the rings is a good thing. The line has more or less returned to the original shape. Think it is time to simplify and reduce by eliminating the rings. Only reduces carrying weight by ~1.5oz. But 1.5oz here, then there starts adding up.

    Photos of the Blackbird

Blackbird set up with a JRB WeatherShield 2.
The only modification on the JRB WS2 will be sewing a grosgrain loop opposite to the one on the entry side. Not necessary, but I think the fit of the WS2 around the perimeter of the Blackbird will look nicer and provide improved underside protection on the non-entry side.
In the second photo the yellow line attached to the WS2 loop and the shock chord from the Blackbird by a Prusiking type of hitch allows entry & adjustment . Photo #3 is a view of the entry side. Photo #4 is the non-entry side without a WS2/Blackbird connection. Last 2 photos are this mornings view downhill from my test hanging site.

Thanks for posting the updated pictures. This will be my first "real" hammock and I'm trying to get my fix reading ya'lls experiences while I wait for it to be sewn and delivered.
