ix vs insul bright

i was wondering i have a no sew plug and was thinking about having some extra insulation on hand to slip between in case of need. been looking at both Insultex and insul bright, not sure what would work better. i will not be sewing it at all due to lack of a thread injector. my concerns are how well they pack down, and durability and warmth. they run about the same price per yd. i'm planning on getting enough for a couple layers of it for more adaptability.

any advice would be apperciated.

The IX will pack down slightly smaller than the InsulBright, and it'll probably last longer due to being slightly more robust (the mylar on the IB tends to tear easily, even though it's bonded to the fleece).

However, according to all of the IX research I've found, it needs airspace to work (the air trapped in that space is the actual insulator, not the IX itself). I don't know if the folds and such in a PLUQ when suspended would be enough without sewing the IX.

Personally, if you're going to go the no-sew route, I'd probably go with InsulBright. It's going to be heavier and bulkier, but it also needs less prep to be certain that it works.

Local fabric shop has a whole bin with scraps of Insul Bright so I am off to see if they have a few pieces in usable sizes for our no sew PLUQ
