this is what i like to do with my extra cord, figure eight around your fingers so it doesnt get tangled as easily then just hank it up to hold
I use a short piece of 1/16" shock cord and a mini cord lock attached to each webbing loop. Make up line in a hank, insert, tighten. Done

you guys rock. Its not what you know its who you know and I know none of you and you all still help. There is a lot of good in that. So thanks.
Amen, miyanc, a lot of great help here -- I've learned so much. The figure 8 is one of them.
I've found the figure-8 to be overkill with my tarp guylines. A simple wrap around my hand followed by stages 10 to 21 of this animation. Since I've included guyline pockets with my tarp anyway, well...

depending on how much cord you are wrapping up, you could always use the daisy chain method. granted it's generally used for 20+ feet, but i've used it for less than 10. here is a video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CDCAqPw3Jo . once again, it depends on how much cord you are talking about. but it should work anyway. it works nicely though because then you just untie the end, and the cord just pulls out. no tangles or nothing.
I did this video a few years ago,
I wrap all of my cords like this Big or small
