    Comercial Hammock Stand?

Short version: I want a comercial hammock stand that will work with a gathered end hammock. What do I need to look for?

Hi, I've been lurking for a little while, and today I've got a paycheck burning a hole in my pocket. My hammocks don't usually get a lot of use. If I'm going out with my BF we just take a two person tent. I'd like to set up a hammock in the yard, but we don't have the trees. I don't want to build something myself. I'm thinking of making a tablecloth hammock for the near future, and have the long tearm goal of weaving something pretty. Anyway, what do I need to look for to make sure the hammock won't sag and hit the bottom supports?

There are plenty of options. Personally i like to not have a bar under me, as such i use a stand that has bars on the sides that come up together at the ends. One of the things to watch with most hammock stands is the lack of a top bar so the ends come in making you hang lower.

There are 2 reasons so many people go the diy route. The first is cost, and the other is the lack of commercial stands that are suitable for gathered end camping style hammocks.

Having said that, there is one that some have used with satisfactory results, although it does have that dreaded bar right under your back. Good luck, and welcome to Hammock Forums.

O for what it's worth also my stand is commercial. I'll try to remember to post a link tomorrow when I'm not in my hammock.

THanks for the input. I found one really pretty arch shapped stand in my google searches, but for almost $500 I'll pass. I have considered a DIY pipe stand (I have no woodworking skills) but I'm not thrilled with the aesthetics.

While you may not be into diy, you possibly have a friend or else know someone who is handy with wood, that you could perhaps get to use some of the good input here on HF and make one for you. Prices vary, but probably under $75.

That one was actually on my short list of possibilities. I'll let you know what I decide to go with and how it works out.

I was at Trail Days this year and HF member FIN had some prototypes that stormcrow and papasmurf where using to display hammocks and UQ on. I know his stands where tubular types and very sturdy and movable. You might could contact him but they could possible put a dent in the old wallet.

I have the texsport stand as well. It worked best if you can have someone push in on the other side while you hook your hammock up. This will make it not sag too much when you lay in it. Granted, I'm 275 so I may have more problem with this than others.

It works, but it's not very portable and it doesn't have a place to put a fly if you want one.
