Welcome to BC. I'm over i the Kootenays about five hours from you. The Okanagan is a busy place as you've probably noticed,,,,, but i guess that depends where you've come from. Some paddle /camping areas are Sugar Lake and Mable Lake out towards Lumby and Cherryville. Bicycle/camping you could look at Myra Canyon. If you kayak paddle there is a group in the Kelowna area ,,some are hammockers,,,,not on HF. There's a series of books/maps called Back Roads of BC. I think the Boundary /Similkameen is the one to look at for your area but you'll have to double check that. There are lots of back country Forestry sites and prov. camp site and starting next week everything will quiet down what with kids going back to school. The okanagan doesn't get allot of snow in the winter and is moderate in temps meaning -10 to+5C in the winter. I'm sure there's allot of little hidden gems over there and you'll have to sqeeze the locals for that info. Hope this helps

PS- i'm sure you've thought of it but look for a hiking book specific to the area,,there usually is. Also check out hiking trails near and around the ski areas, Big White, Apex etc.. Usually there's a trail system for off season. Also you have a place called Surplus Herbies in town. Use to be really good for army surplus stuff,,blankets,,wool stuff etc.

    Welcome from Vancouver Island

    Hello Barlutti,

Welcome to Hammock Forums! There is lots of useful information and wonderful people on the forums. There are certainly more hangers in other parts of Canada and the US but our numbers are growing in BC.

    Have fun!

thanks guys, all good advice I went today to the BX falls, only a short 5-6 km return, but a beauty day for walking in the woods. Lots of info online that im finding now so I should have a nice time exploring. Glad to be out here, came from Edmonton...so the change is nice

I was out in Cranbrook for about a year, loved it out that way, may even try and get to Fernie this winter. thanks again for all the tips

http://www.trailpeak.com/ has been helpful, pics coming of the few trails , also some nice spots for winter hangs
