    Hel>---<lo from West Virginia

hellow. i am 16. I have been back packing since i was 6. My father (on the trail "sherwin williams") just reminded me that i was 9 when i actually started backpacking (before i just walked and he carried my backpack). I enjoy backpacking. Every part of backpacking appeals to me, the aching muscles, the smell of my sleeping bag, the food (i refuse to eat dehydrated meals). The only thing i don't like is taking craps in the sticks.
I'm a sophomore in high school. I am smart, not to tot my own horn, but because if this i like to think, therefore i enjoy making my own gear. Like anyone, i want to lighten my load, so i can go farther and have more fun. Hammocks just make sense.

Hey, Woodduck. You sound okay. What's your best piece of DIY gear, so far?

Someday you will realize that taking a crap in the sticks is one of life's small pleasures. No rush, though.

    welcome to the madness.

    Brings back memories

My daughter started going on hikes with when she turned 4 she insisted on carrying her own backpack. She wanted to carry (for her) a large yellow backpack (empty of course) that when viewed from the rear looked like a backpack with legs going down the trail.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
