Are you talking about this one?

've never used one of these devices for hanging my hammocks but I would say a metal teeth on the the Figure9 is not going to help with your rope fraying. It may make the fraying even worse.

I have used 6 figure 9s to suspend & tie down my tarp for over a year (Ihangnearlyeverynight) using the included ropes for at the ridgeline & climbers (I think it's 6mm cord) accessory cord for the tiedowns. So far, after all that time, there is no freying. The hammock & tarp (usually) go up 2 of every 3 nights, & come down every morning I hang, if I think of it . My tarp (Retired as of 4PM Tuesday) is a whopping 2 Lbs, & has been up during several all day (24hrs plus) wind storms with 50+ MPH gusts.

I do not use them to hang my hammock from.

I'll not mention poor quality control at HH here

the listed load limit is 150 lbs
no way I'd hang a hammock with it

I use them, and the regular figure 9s for my tarp and other misc non hammock related stuff

The load limits for these things are drastically conservative. I have used both regular fig 9's and more recently the carabiner versions with no ill effects.

If you search these forums you will find lots of testing related to fig 9's. Both warbonnet and Dutch I believe have tested these to failure point. There is documentation that Fig 9's hold over 900lbs.

Here is a pic from testing done by Dutch.

Only input I would add, is that you should file the teeth down and ignore the manufacturers suggestions for the hitch and use the hitch displayed above.

I lifted 900 pounds with a large Figure 9 (w/o biner). I think you want to inspect for abrasion though.

Can't help you with the figure 9s but I can help you with your rope. If it is fraying at the end, take out your lighter and put the flame at the very tip of the rope, make sure to move the rope around so it doesn't build up in one area. Once the end is burnt and stopped fraying, put some electrical tape tape just around the end of the rope and it should never fray again. I have never even seen a HH but I take it the line is spectra?
    Sorry if this doesn't help.

I'm not sure what the composition of the rope is, but mine is an inner core with a sleeve of some sort. Or should I say was. Follow some suggestions on the forum and switch over to another suspension mode. I use ring buckles now. That will take care of the rope fraying as well.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I use a Numer 9 on one end of my HH with an extra half hitch for good measure. I use a bowline in the other end usually only one end needs to be adjusted. I agree with the other posts aout filing down the teeth; they can be hard on the rope.

I use the small Number 9's on a lot of my tarp tie-outs since they make for a quick adjustments.
