Why use a biner on tree straps?

I'm new to hanging and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do things. One thing I don't understand when looking at videos and demos is why people use a biner on the loop of tree straps. Why can't I just feed the standing end of the strap thru the end loop to secure the strap around the tree?

I just feed one end through the other. But I believe some use biners for speed and its a hair easier

You can do that. The biner is faster, and on some suspensions like Warbonnets strap and buckle you don't have access to the other end without removing strap from buckles.

some folks do it because they've seen it done. Other folks do it to avoid nylon on nylon friction damage. I suppose there's a good reason to do it for speed as well. Hyoh

    Speed and ease for me.
We are now ready to start our way down the Great Unknown. We are three quarters of a mile in the depth of the earth. We have an unknown distance yet to run, an unknow river yet to explore. What falls there are, we know not; what rocks beset the channel, we know not; what walls rise over the river, we know not. Ah, well! We may conjecture many things. The men talk as cheerfully as ever; jests are bandied about freely this morning; but to me the cheer is somber and the jests are ghastly. Powell 1869

I feed mine through. The carabiner is just a quick on/off method.

It can also make it easier to throw the end around a big tree that you can't get your arms around. I use Dutch clips which do the same thing because often I leave my suspension attached to the hammock. Its whatever works for you.

I use dutch clips on my cinch buckle strap suspension so I can leave the straps attached to hammock. I pull the free end through if I've got my whoopie sling tree straps.

I use Dutch Clips because they're a little more convenient than feeding through the loop, seems to make it easier to fling the strap around trees and it was the first piece of Dutch gear I bought and I just love Dutch gear.
