Overnite hang White Ranch, Jefferson County Open Space, Colorado

The weather is just about perfect in Colorado this time of year.
Day time temp mid 80's and evens high 40s to mid 50's even at 8500ft.

After spending my Labor day as most with family and friends doing the usual cookouts and visiting to commemorate the end of summer and back to school season for the kids.
Who-ray! says all the mom's out there.

I found myself pine-ing for the piney woods. Some quiet time with my hammock and a good book.
Now being recently retired I was setting in my lawn chair Monday afternoon when it dawned on me.
I don't have to go to work tomorrow.
I've got no kids to get off to school so I packed up my hammock with a lunch, dinner and breakfast and headed out to a local open space park for some quiet time.
It was absolutely wonderful. By leaving late afternoon on Monday when everyone from the holiday had already left I had the park to myself.

Here's a few pictures with the rest on my Facebook. Hope you enjoy them.

I am so jealous!!! When we lived in Colorado White Ranch was one o my favorite places to MTB. I didn't realize that you could do overnights in the Jeffco parks. Thank you for sharing the pics.

Thanks for sharing your adventure! Great pics.....have to wait until I get home to see the rest....net nanny blocks the rest here at work. Are those the lights of Denver in the background? Really nice looking hang spot.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

Thanks for the comments. The front range has so many places to camp. Open Space, NF I usually never have to go to an established CG.

    Hi food,
I can't thank you enough for showing me this place. It really is nice up there.
If you ever want to give bikepacking a try I have a second bike...

Thanks for the comment. Yes those are the lights from Denver. Well mostly the Northern part. I'd have to do a pano shot to catch them all.

Thanks for this trip report - could you tell me more about the regulations and camping opportunities here? I've been dying to find a place where I could go for a quick overnighter and be back home in time to feed the dogs and let them out in the morning. The location of White Ranch seems absolutely ideal for this.

We could definitely bike in, or do some hiking, to find an awesome campsite like the one you showed.

There are 3 camping areas on this Open Space. Two of them are open to camping with horses as well.
Camping is free but you have to register at the parking lot.
My favorite is off of the Sawmill Trail. Middle loop, site 15-20 are all great hammock spots.
All the current regs like fire bans etc are posted in every parking lot. In the parking area there are maps and reg sheets.
I'm sure a google search on this area will provide maps and copies of the Jefferson County Open Space info sheets as well.
