Anyone use a dog leash? I am sure they wont give you a weight rating, but I am just wondering if the material is the same? I guess abother question would be what DIY tree straps could we use? The we would be a big guy. Of course with a marlinspke hitch and lets just say whoopies.

Ya I'm 270 and the amsteel doesn't leave me on the floor. Of you got that crappy Walmart hammock then that's prolly what's stretching the most. Get yourself a grand trunk. I recently bought a black taffeta tablecloth off of amazon and whipped it. It's 90 by 156 and only 20 bucks. It's awesome.

I make my own DIY Tree Straps - see post #10.

Its way easy, requires no sewing, and you can get the strapping materials at any climbing shop or REI as mentioned. It's about 36-cents per foot if i remember correctly. If you have more patience than me there are some great HF vendors offering strap materials by the foot too.

PS: Use a marlin-spike hitch (dead simple to learn) on the strap as close to the tree as you can. Also rather than a toggle you can use a carabiner (climbing rated) and that way you just clp your whoopie slings onto the biner - no need to worry about the whoopie slipping off the Knot (not the toggle
