Hey I'm new to both the forum and hanging, but old to riding. The ib stands for iron butt. This summer I used my hammock on a road trip of about 7 days and found the hammock great. I was warm in just a sleeping bag, but the was in Utah. Space is the issue not weight. Today I bought a Lawson Blue Ridge. It doubles as a tent, but takes more space.
I couldn't use the hammock twice on the trip. I also just picked up a Kelty 12x12 tarp at Rei for 50$. Noahs tarp I think.

If space is an issue, and it always is, look at the Helen Two Wheels bag system. They make giant roll top bags that tie down really well and are waterproof. I have hard cases but I take my top case off when camping and stack these babies up. It's a clever system and works well.

That was my plan until I actually used the Wallmart foam pad. It works for many here and it sure is a good idea to see if the hammock scene works for you before launching into the spendy end of the pool.

I chose the DangerBird 72 to pack on my WeeStrom. It isn't for gram conscious hikers but it is roomier and more spacious than a WBBB DL1.1, lots more than the Hennesy Explorer, and better than my DIY efforts.

See if PapaSmurf can make yours in time for your trip. You won't regret it for adv rides or car camping.

Hi neighbor. Former rider/road racer here. You wont need a bug net in October so you could just get a simple gathered end hammock and spend the saved $$ on a good tarp.

Wow! thanks for all of the great advice. Those moto bags look great and man the dangerbird is impressive. KMACK I live right by Candlewood lake, it is a small world maybe I'll run into you at some point. I'm pretty good with a sewing machine I was going to look into a DIY tarp today.
