We NEED a Fabric Sticky Please

I would realy try my hand at making a few items useing nylon.

My problem is, there are so many types of choices when it comes to Nylon that I have no idea where to begin.

70 Denier Nylon Ripstop
Micro Denier Ripstop
1.1oz 30 Denier Ripstop
Micro Ripstop
70D coated Ripstop Nylon Fabric with FR and UV Treatment
40 Denier Ripstop Nylon Fabric with DWR Finish
1.9oz or 70 Denier ripstop nylon fabric
420 Denier Coated Ripstop Packcloth Nylon Fabric
Downproof Ripstop Nylon (Nominal Fabric Weight : 1.87 oz per sq yard)

I dont understand the difference in 70, 40, 420 ripstop.

Maybe someone can also give a list of all the abbreviations that are used as well.

It would be nice to have examples of what each type of nylon is used for in the sticky as well.

I would like to make a down underquilt for myself for the winter and also some kids hammocks.

Not only is there a sticky, there is a whole section under DIY called FABRICS. Great place to learn, especially from the Obi Wan RamblinRev. Word has it he invented fabric back around the time of Adam & Eve

If you're referring to hammocking in general there's already an acronym dictionary out there as well

I think there should be a "sticky" section. There are too many stickies , especially in the DIY section that it limits the number of new threads on each page since the stickies appear on every page even past the first one.

The problem with a sticky that focuses on this kind of information is that no such consensus exists. You can almost literally use any fabric for any purpose you can imagine. Some are better suited than others for cetain applications but to codify any particular relationship is to short change the reason that many people get into DIY in the first place. That is, to be able to customize the product to meet their own specifications. There is a lot of information out there and usually if you are researching a particular project you can get an idea of the range of fabrics most often used. But I would venture to say that is the preferable place to start. Start with the project and decide which materials are best suited to what you want to accomplish.
