    Yay!

I made my first hammock today. I did a DIY gathered end style using 1.1 Rip stop (I weigh 165# and am 6'00"). I used blue whoopie slings ran twice through the gathered end and did a whipping just to hold everything nice and tight and make the thing hang the way I wanted it to. I used 1.5"x7' digital camo tree straps using a Marlin Spike knot. I also used a structural ridgeline from the makers of whoopie slings at 109" for my hammock's length of 11'. It was a little nerve racking on the first hang in the basement, I couldn't believe something so light would really hold my weight on nothing but a couple pieces of "string". So stoked. See pix below for official weight of hammock, tree straps, slings, SR and Titanium tent stakes. And one of yours truly. Next project is the Tarp!

Great looking first hammock and whoopies! For the ends, did you say you used channels and then whipped them as well?

Thanks Shug, I appreciate that. The videos that you did about hammocks, tarps, gear etc were VERY helpful. I took a lot of inspiration from them as well as your trip reports. You are a great ambassador to the world of hammocking.

I sewed the end in and ran the whoopie sling through, wrapped it twice and used a lark's head. After it was gathered and I had hung on it, I whipped it to hold the ball tight.

I should also mention how great this website is. There is sooo much information on here and everyone is just so eager to provide information, ideas and thoughts. It's a refreshing change from many other communities. I'm glad I stumbled across hammocking and this forum. I'll keep posting projects as they get done! I even got my wife wanting to trade in her ENO setup and make her own gear!

Sweet....just be careful hanging over a hard surface. The woods or the lawn are much more forgiving.
