    Cuban fiber Tarps

Just curious why everyone puts up with the noise and commotion from a Cuban Tarp ,not to mention the crazy price of them ? I have a Silnylon and the weight difference is not that much !

    Everyone?

I think you're mistaking Cuben for Spinn when talking about noise. Cuben is fairly quiet.

The weight and cost difference is probably a matter of perspective for each person. People have differing considerations based on how they will use the gear.

I think it's nice that there are different materials, to suit different needs.

I think these kind of materials are exponential in price. Going from Silnylon to cuben fiber may not mean much to you but there are those that enjoy the benefits of weight and the translucent appearance and will pay a couple hundred more. I have yet to try a cuben fiber tarp but for the price I say stay with Silnylon! If you were interested in buying these tarps I would advise you to do lots of research to make sure, or take a gander at the DIY tarps which could land you a tarp for the price of a Silnylon.

I've got two buddy's and have watched videos of Cuban tarps in action and the one thing that is the most concerning is the transparency ! I like to not show the moon to the camp when changing clothes if you know what I mean! I've noticed in colder temps they become brittle also !

Can you say, "6.5 ounces?" I can put up with a lot for 6.5 ounces. If Cuben Fiber tarps are noisy, I certainly haven't noticed it. My HG 4S CF tarp is 6.5 ounces. Did I mention that?

I'm thinking of upgrading to the Winter Palace - much heavier (and no doubt louder) at 8.5 ounces. Can you say 8.5 ounces?

I've tried sil , Cuban , ripstop , DIY , and Silnylon is my favorite for the price ! I paid under a hundred for mine and it has 16 great breakaway tabs for staking out every direction !

That's a good weight ! I'm running 13 oz on a 10x10 and the ends fold in to make doors!

For me it was the weight (6.5oz) and the lack of stretch. With the CF no need for those fancy auto tensioning guy lines that I see on the sil. If on the other hand price was an issue, I would not have though twiice and gone with the sil. A little water can come through the sil as I understand as I have seen on sil tents, but I have never seen water come through the CF.

Where money is no object, has anyone with a CF tarp gone to sil? I know some have gone the other way.

My .02 your mileage may vary.

For me it's the lighter weight and see thru. I don't find it to noisy.

if cf and silnylon are the same price, i'll go with the cf.

the weight and non stretchy material are the deciding factors.
