What kind of seams are you using to join pieces of fabric together?

Made my first hammock today and wanted it to be 80 inches wide so I added two strips of 11 inch fabric to the center section of 60 inches. I used flat felled seams to join the fabric but it seems to have created to much rigidity in the hammock body. Since these are not weight being seams could you just use a lap seam?

This is a beach hammock so weight was not an issue. I used 200 denier uncoated pack cloth for the center section and uncoated rips top for the outer sections.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Flat felled is the popular choice.

Your 200d fabric has more to do with the bulky seam than the actual application of seam.
