Hanging in the Hudson Valley

Howdy fellow hangers,

I am am a newbie hammocker and former ground-dweller. I'm around technology a lot in my job (server/system administrator) and to offset this I like to get outdoors whenever I can.

My "hobby" budget is very limited (a wife and a 5-year old son will do that) so I have to acquire gear in bits and pieces. Right now I got started with a Equip travel hammock from Walmart, which surprisingly holds my 300lbs up pretty well. I modded it a little bit, retying the ropes at the ends and replacing the steel links with a couple CAMP nano 'biners. Right now I'm hooking it up to some towing straps, but I have ordered the ENO Atlas straps.

I'm in Kerhonkson (Ulster County) which is across the river and north of you a bit, right across the mountain from New Paltz.

Welcome! Lots of good spots to hang in the HV...lots of ideas here to have equipment on the cheap, as long as your not a gram weenie!

Welcome! I'm a newb myself. From MD but I just moved back to MD in '09. Before that I was in New Paltz/Newburgh for 6 years, and worked in Fishkill. I know exactly where Kerhonkson is! Beautiful area.
