    Advice?

Just got my chinook 12'x9.6' tarp and did a test hang. I thought that the 1.2 tech line from diy gear would be a good ridge line but I'm having issues getting prusik knots to stay tight. I've attached some pics of my setup.

On one tree I have the tech line with a fixed loop attached to a soft shackle. On the other tree I have the ridge line marlin spiked to another soft shackle that is attached to a presik. I made the presik out of the same 1.2 tech line.

Any advice on how to keep the presik tight? Maybe I should get the 1.9 for the ridge line and stick with the 1.2 for the presiks but don't want to spend the money if there is a workaround.

I've attached the tarp ends to another soft shackle and I made a presik with a small 1 inch piece of arrow shaft that I slip the soft shackle over for quick release or what-not. (the soft shackle in the pics is from cheap parachord. I will make them out of amsteel once I have the setup tweaked)

Maybe a different knot would hold? I'm a newbie for sure so don't know what else might work.

    Thanks in advance,
    Don

If you're using the same size line for your prussik then do more wraps. More wraps equal more friction. More friction equals more grip.

Blake's Hitch. I find it holds and slides better.

You might also try a thinner rope for your prusic knot, the closer the diameter of the prusic rope is to the line it's on, the worse it holds.

There is a recent post about using dymeena planner board line from a fishing tackle shop for this for tarp guylines.

+1 on more wraps. I used that method for my hammock suspesion before I found whoopies...

You can try more wraps for the prussick, that helps. Or, try a klemheist knot. I find that is holds better for my RL. Just remember that it is a directional knot and has to be tied facing the correct direction. YMMV.

+1 on this, the klemheist works great if more wraps of the prussik doesn't.
