Merritt/Lost Lake late summer hike and hang

I spent a solo overnighter this late summer/early fall in the Alpine Lake wilderness area at Merritt and Lost Lake. I went Tenkara fishing and caught brook trout at Merritt and Cut throat at Lost Lake. The weather was perfect and as this was late in the season, no bugs! I roasted my catch of cut throat on the fire for dinner and had breakfast from the hammock the next morning. I love this trip and take is at least once a year, The fishing is consistent and it's very accessible.

    Hi there Buenos!

I liked the putting on of the pack at the start, I don’t think anyone has ever filmed that part for a trip report before. That was a grumpy looking snake. It looks like a SUPER nice place to hike and hang! I like that shot of you in your hammock at the end too! Thanks for the trip report, I enjoyed that!

I wanted to try and tell the story without words. There've been a couple like that here and I was inspired to try it. That was actually a grimy lizard. I was expecting a snake and was surprised, because I didn't k ow there are lizards in these mountains. This is one of my favorite places to visit and I have been there often. Thanks Bruciehi5!

Looks like a great time! Was that Victor Wooten in the background?

    Thanks for sharing!

SMV: Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller & Victor Wooten, on the album "Thunder" the track is "Classic Thump (Jam)". Stanley Clarke is one of my music heroes.

Nice, Buenos! Merritt Lake looks awesome, I want to check it out now! Lost Lake has always creeped me out for some reason so I've never stayed there, been listening to too many ghost stories I guess. But your video made it look great! Nice fishing, nice solo!! And EVERTHING is better with Stanley!

I saw Clarke when he passed through Atlanta back in 1990 when he was with Animal Logic. (Ouch, was it that long ago?)

Back to the original topic ... It looks like you had a great time. Solitude, solitude, and more solitude. Thanks for sharing your trip.

Nothing at Lost Lake to fear accept the steep unmarked trail with a Tom of blown down trees to scramble over as you decend. it has some of the most consistant mountain trout fishing I've ever experienced.

I go backpacking and camping so often alone, I almost feel weird camping with others. The access to this lake is via a steep fisherman's trail and doesn't get a lot of traffic. Do solitude at this site is easy to obtain.

Tenkara is such a simple lightweight way to go. Worth trying. I catch as many fish as anyone else using spinning gear. Which actually surprised me. Now I'm hooked. And my entire set up weighs less than 10 oz.
