I think you're mixing up Kelly Dahl, which we went to for the Summer Hang while it was open, and Burning Bear, which was definitely closed for the 1st Winter Hang but they didn't care, and we were relieved that the toilets were open.

For that matter, the second winter hang, at Rampart Reservoir, was also technically closed, I think - that would be the one where Outandback pulk'ed a bunch of firewood across the asphalt, and again there was a bathroom open near the entrance of the park when we expected them to be closed.

You're right - I was thinking about Burning Bear. Kelly Dahl was the rainstorm that almost washed me away...not where my Jeep almost betrayed me.

The Reservoir was indeed closed, but they said it would be ok if we took care of it. Those campgrounds are blackened now, I have a feeling. According to the Waldo Canyon burn map, that whole side of the reservoir was lost.

Seems like disaster follows every time I go to a Colorado Hang...

Any of the sites are fine by me. Hiking in or 4x4 in is fine by me. But if I have to tow Jeff out of the snow again.........

That will never happen again. I had a hovercraft chassis installed on my Jeep just for these hangs.

UPDATE - We thought we had settled on a location but it is a no go. We will try to get a new location finalized today.

The hang location has been changed to Burning Bear Campground, near Grant, CO.

See the other thread for more details and attendance lists.
