Uh, well, after putting in my address, it is 1 hr. 51 minutes from me, but if that's where everyone wants to go, I won't be the oddball.
It probably gave you the directions to the edge of the forest...which would be about 45 minutes away.
Junebug: I was just looking at this link: http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_...rdb5335416.pdf and just thinking that it might actually be further. Sorry!
There's a couple things that may be of concern after looking at Sumter NF...no reservations, group sites are "up to 14 people, 4 cars." I hate to be wishy-washy, but perhaps we should consider another location...
I see what you are talking about now. From what I have researched, this rec area is barely used. I think if we contact them, they may not have a problem with us having more people and cars. I really think we will probably have the place mostly to ourselves. Even if we just set up on a few regular sites, it wouldn't cost much. I can tell you if it is anything like Parsons Mtn, it will be empty.
Not sure if I can make this one. I need to check my calendar and available funds for that weekend.
Life looks better from a BIAS hammock.
Hey guys, it sounds like you've already picked a place, but if a couple weeks earlier would work for anybody (sept 22nd weekend) I'm gonna be up around the N.O.C. Is GSMNP too far? I'm actually going to be up there from the 22nd thru 30th if anyone wants to do something between those dates. The info is in my sig, but just know that I'm open to whatever, doesn't have to be hiking or AT based
We all know of the original "Walk off the war" thru-hike - but, check out these guys, they're helping folks 'walk off the war' today -
