Lived in Maine for awhile and went to college in downeast Maine I loved it and miss it, but I will be back!

There are so many free campgrounds in Maine. I had the Maine gazateer and it showed all the state run campgrounds. All of which, the ones I have been to, are free! I suggest you pick one up. Most are on those endless logging roads or near lakes and such, some only accessible by canoe. Good I can't wait to get back there.

If you get a chance, go to the bold coast in cutler. My favorite place for an overnighter. It was so close to my house too :-) . Ugh I really miss it.

You going to common ground fair? Love that fair!

P.s. Olddog definitely keep us in the loop, I am very interested in a Maine hang.

    Thanks..

everyone for the warm welcome! Glad to see so much activity here and from all over the place.

@Olddog: Definitely interested in any group hang. Frankfort's just a stone's skip away from where I'm at in the Brunswick area. I'll keep me eye's peeled for dates.

@Deadphans: Free campgrounds? That's like the golden fleece around here! Thanks for the tip on the gazateer. I'll pick one up and take a peek. I've been told there is camping up north that's more like what I'm used to (pack up, drive out, hike in to nowhere in particular) but previously hectic work schedules (80+hrs/wk) had prevented much exploration.

@Rilmoigan: Yes, it's about time I "popped" up! Sounds like we may have a good sized hangin' group and a few places to host! I'd like to hit the AT 100-mile area and the White Mts. region possibly next year as well. (Sounds like the schedule's filling up!) It was nice meeting you in person!

@Mr. Ramblinrose: pleasure to meet your aquaintance. Whereabouts in Maine are you located?

@Deadphans: forgot to answer your question about common grounds! I've been eyeing that fair since I got here in 2010. I was going to rent a booth there when I was managing a garden center in Portland, but didn't get the chance.

I will definitely be checking it out next year and vending some hammocks either that year or the year after (depending on what's going on). I've heard that it's *the* fair to go to around these parts. I attended the fair up by Fryeburg last year and was a bit dissapointed by it. Seemed like most of the traffic was retirees shuttled there on buses and the traffic was really light. Heard it used to be good, but has declined in recent years.

Big hopes for Common Ground though!

Cool! I live in Garland, just over the Dover-Garland Town Line (Branns Mills Pond area)

It was good to meet you and the missus as well. We'll get stuff going in the (hopefully near-ish) future.
