    Newish, from Maine

    Hello everyone,

I use "Wildewudu" because it describes my passion. It's an Old English/Anglo-Saxon compound word that means 'Wild Wood', and that's where I'm most comfortable and at home. I've been camping and engaging in bushcraft endeavors since a wee lad with family, and on my own since I was a curious and inquisitive teenager in the late 80's, early 90's.

I got into hammock camping initially in 2005. It's a little foggy how I first stumbled into it, but I'm glad I did. Since trying it for the first time I've never looked back! I joined Ed Speer's hammock group on Yahoo around that time, and a few years later I joined HammockForums. Now that I have a little more free time on my hands these days (and more online time) I thought it was about time I introduced myself!

Originally, I'm from the Pacific NW. The rural mountains of SE WA were my stomping grounds for most of the time, and they're still my favorite region to camp in, but I've also had many trips in the Mt. Hood national forest and Cascades national forest and many little places in between and all over the PNW. I've recently moved (as of 2010) to midcoast Maine and am looking for places to camp around here that don't involve campgrounds and their associated fees! If you're a Mainer I'd be interested in hearing from you!

After purchasing a Byer hammock to see what the hooplah was about, I bought an ENO double-nest, and a Claytor Jungle Hammock. There were shortcomings and good points to these and many other that I've tried but none seemed to have all the design features that I wanted so I started making my own in 2005 and evolving the design. I'm now making my own with folding spreader bars for the netting for more interior room and have been playing with splicing Amsteel.

I love that hammock camping technology has been evolving in leaps and bounds over the last decade and I can't wait to see what new developments arise that have yet to be invented.

Welcome to the forums from Indiana. Your gonna fit right in here,
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

    Welcome from Florida.
I've been fortunate enough to have enjoyed the outdoors of Maine on many occasions. There's something very peaceful about all the lakes in the region.

Welcome aboard from Florida. After spending 5 summers in Maine and not being able to make it the last 2 I have every intention of getting back next summer. We stay on 25 acres outside Frankfort and already have the OK to host a couple of group hangs there. Will be posting dates next summer Love to meet some of the NE members.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
