I use Doctari's idea of a pack leash it's a length of 7/64 amsteel with a locked brummel on one end and the standing end is buried to leave a neat finished end. I have a continuous loop prussiced on it with an s biner clipped to it. I keep it in my hip belt pocket so I can grab it quickly and wrap it around any size tree and hang my pack. I keep a piece of tyveck for a ground cloth and lay my pack there when I sleep.
