    Zing-it CRL stretch in rain

I just got back from a group hang where it rained the few days we were there. I have recently changed out my tarp RL to a CRL, and I've only used it a few times. I noticed during break down that the RL had sagged when it was previously very taught. I've never had this happen on the previous use of the CRL, but I've never had it out in sustained rain. I don't think the line could have slipped in the wasp, so could the rain have caused the zing-it to stretch? I thought the whole reason we used zing-it was because it didn't stretch when wet.

It doesn't stretch when wet, or if it does, it's not measurable. How is the tarp attached to the CRL? If it's soft shackle prusiks, that is where your slippage probably occurred. You might need to add a wrap until the Samthane coating wears off the Zing-It.

I believe they've improved the Samthane coating over the years. On my older CRLs, it used to wear off quickly. It seems to hang around a lot longer with the newer Zing-It.

The tarp was attached with prussics, but if they had shifted only the tarp would be sagging not the RL. The entire line from one tree to the next had sagged a good 4-6 inches, and it was tight when I set up.

Well, I've never had a Dutch Wasp slip with Zing-It, but I suppose it's possible. The Zing-It definitely did not stretch 4 to 6 inches.

Was the wasp locked in the one end looped over the tail so to speak?

Make sure the Wasp hasn't gotten too wide. I have several Wasps and Flyz and have adjusted them from time to time, either using a screwdriver to pry the opening bigger, or pliers to make the opening smaller.

The wasp was locked, but I did have to widen it a bit after the first trip because I couldn't get it to release from the zing-it. It's possible i made it too wide but it held fine for a few hangs.

Not the part where the zing it goes under the wings but the cord should be looped over itself where it goes through thee whole in its butt. If that's what you meant disregard.

It seems to me that you're not the first to experience that. I seem to remember another thread with the same topic. The resolution was to string the cordage up and stretch it initially to "set" the cordage to eliminate looseness in the braid. You may try a search for more accurate info.

I have used a 1.75mm CRL with Tato connectors and currently use a 2.2mm Lash-It CRL with a Dutch hook on one end, a Dutch Wasp on the other, and Soft Shackle Prusiks. I have not experienced CRL stretch as you described in either case and I've been in some fairly heavy wind and rains in Florida. It could be that the widening of the Wasp is causing some slippage. I suggest you try tying off the end that you wrap around the Wasp and see if you can duplicate the issue.
