Quilt color affects performance?

I'm looking into purchasing materials for both a top quilt and underquilt, and reeeaaallly want to go with a white inside material and moroccan blue outside material. During the research however, I read on both Just Jeff's site and backpackinglight that color can degrade the effect of your quilt: That "The outer shell is chosen to be a lighter color to keep radiant heat loss to a minimum, and the inner shell material is chosen to be black to help absorb your radiant heat." Should I really worry about this with my fabric choices?

I say go with your likes. One thing worth considering, though, is that a dark material on the inside will make drying the quilt faster if you put it out in the sun (inside up) during a longer trip. Not sure of the size of the effect...

Isn't it dark when your sleeping? Pretty sure everything is black at that point Get what makes ya happy. With white, my only concern would be getting it visibly dirty quicker.

It BARELY matters. But I would still go with black inside so it does not get dirty.

The inside will still get dirty- with dark fabric you just won't be able to see the dirt as easily- ha ha.

Crazy talk. It may matter in a laboratory with someone using sensitive equipment to take measurements in a controlled environment. Out in the woods, any gains would be impossible to detect and there are so many other variables like wind and clothing just to name a few.

The more important thing to focus on is the color for drying. My quilts are not necessarily wet when I get up, but I'll often hang them out in the sun for 15 minutes or so in the winter. My black quilts really catch that sun to dry off any condensation or moisture. You probably won't notice it, but it's often there. But in general, I don't feel it's necessary. Get whatever color looks good
